With the official opening of the transfer portal yesterday, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets head coach Brent Key can now focus on what positions to look at for additional depth and maybe even a starter for next season at certain positions, but a big area of question will be the secondary.
While there is a lot of returning production for the team on both sides of the ball, the depth chart for the secondary of the Yellow Jackets will be razor thin. The combination of graduating players, such as safety LaMiles Brooks and Warren Burrell, and the transfer portal, which saw Taye Seymore leave the program earlier in the week, has the Yellow Jackets looking at possibilities from around the nation to fill these holes left behind.
It's no secret that the Yellow Jackets defensive coordinator, Tyler Santucci, feels the most comfortable in 4-2-5 nickel packages, so the success of that defensive scheme a lot of times requires you to have depth in the secondary.
The good news is that the skill group will be returning some of the major contributors from this season, such as Ahmari Harvey, Clayton Powell-Lee, and Omar Daniels. On top of that, the team also signed two four-star cornerbacks Tae Harris and Dalen Henson, however the duo may see limited playing time in their freshman seasons.
The Yellow Jackets were ranked 8th in the ACC this season in passing yards given up per game, which is still a good place to be, but if they want to maintain that success, then Key will most likely have to dip into the transfer portal for some of those spots on the roster.
