The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have extended head coach Brent Key’s contract through 2029, and gave him a supposed big pay raise, though numbers on the deal have not become public yet, but it is expected that Key will at least move into the middle of the pack in terms of ACC coach salaries.
It’s safe to say that the Yellow Jackets athletic administration and Athletic Director JJ Batt are bought in on Key as the future of the program after a stellar 7-5 season in 2024, which has seen the Yellow Jackets beat two teams that have been ranked in the top ten this season, Miami and Florida State, and took in-state rival Georgia to eight overtime’s before losing 44-42 in their annual meeting.
Key will take the Yellow Jackets to their second consecutive bowl appearance this season, something that the program hasn’t done since the 2013-2014 seasons.
Since taking over for his predecessor, Geoff Collin’s, Key has an overall record of 18-15. The Yellow Jackets earlier this season were ranked for the first time since 2015, climbing as high as the No. 23 spot before falling on the road to Syracuse.
The extension also comes as Key is in the middle of signing what could very well be the best recruiting class in the history of the program, claiming just their second five-star recruit in program history in Josh Petty, and multiple other four-star recruits, including safety Tae Harris, defensive tackle Christian Garrett, and running back JP Powell.
