We have already broken down the most important position group for the offensive unit, but what about the defense for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets heading into the 2025 season? Yellow Jackets head coach Brent Key used the offseason mainly bringing in players on the defensive side of the ball, insinuating that that will be his main focus in 2025.

The defense as a unit was hovering around the middle of the pack for the ACC all season last year, but they made plays when they needed to at time to take a big jump from being one of the worst defenses in the entire ACC. However, there is still growth needed, and the most important group to watch in 2025 will be the Yellow Jackets secondary.

After Tyler Santucci took a job as the Baltimore Ravens linebacker coach, Key was sent in a frantic trying to find a defensive coordinator at the last minute, and he landed on Blake Gideon, a former safeties coach for the Texas Longhorns. With the secondary being his specialty, Key went mout and grabbed Gideon a few transfers to work with in Jyron Gilmore, Jon Mitchell, Kelvin Hill, and Savion Riley to add to a secondary that already included Ahmari Harvey, Clayton Powell-Lee, and Tae Harris.

The group will be seething of experience and now has some much-needed depth, but with this being Gideon's first defensive coordinator position, this will be a big test to see how well he can do in his position, and a lot of the focus will be spent on the secondary.
