With the Spring transfer portal opening up less than a week ago, this will be the final time for rosters to fill out their rosters by adding pieces from the portal. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets head coach Brent Key has seen what his team needs heading into the transfer portal, and that is providing help to new defensive coordinator Blake Gideon by getting pieces in the secondary.
It started with the Yellow Jackets getting former Colorado Buffaloes safety Savion Riley, who had 48 tackles in his freshman season with the Vanderbilt Commodores before transferring to the Buffaloes, then ultimately transferring to the Yellow Jackets over the weekend.
Key then went out and added another piece to the secondary for the Yellow Jackets, as he got former Penn State Nittany Lions cornerback Jon Mitchell, who was a four-star recruit when he committed to the Nittany Lions last season. It was huge for the Yellow Jackets to pick up Mitchell, as he has all four years of eligibility left.
These are the first two recruits that the program has brought in for the Spring transfer window, and I think that this shows exactly where Brent Key thinks that the team can improve. The fact that both incoming transfers come from the same position group means that Key seen that that was one of the weaker spots on the team and strived to fill it.
Key will try to add in more transfers as long as the portal is open, and this, to me, was an excellent start.
