The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets headed into game one of their four-game weekend series against the Marshall Thundering Herd today 4-0, but the way that the lineup for the team has been playing this season, fans were left worried when the offense for the team would pick up. Then the game started.
The Yellow Jackets wasted no time showing the capability of the lineup, as the team would score two three runs in the bottom of the first inning, including outfield Drew Burress hitting his third home run of the season. First baseman Kent Schmidt would score later in the inning.
In the bottom of the second inning, Burress would hit a single that would bring Carson Kerce in to score to give Burress his third RBI of the game and the Yellow Jackets a 4-0 lead. Then, left fielder Alex Hernandez would hit his first home run of the season, a grand slam, that would put the Yellow Jackets up 8-0 still in the second inning.
The Yellow Jackets would score again when catcher Vahn Lackey would hit a ball deep enough to bring designated hitter Nathan Waugh home from third to put the Yellow Jackets up 9-1.
Lackey would again get a big hit in the bottom of the sixth inning, as he would hit his first home run of the season to also bring in Hernandez to put the Yellow Jackets up 11-1. A wild pitch later in the inning would bring home Will Baker to give the team a 12-1 lead.
The game would be called in the seventh with the Yellow Jackets winning 12-1.
As a team, the Yellow Jackets recorded 13 hits, with three of them being home runs, leaving little to no doubt for fans that the offense can be productive.
