Georgia Tech picks up dramatic 89-86 win over Clemson

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets traveled to Clemson, South Carolina for a matchup against the Clemson Tigers last night, looking for wins as the season winds down, and they walked out with the most dramatic win of their season yet, as they beat the Tigers 89-86 in triple overtime.

The Yellow Jackets headed into the game looking to build off of the momentum from the team's 77-70 win over the No.21 ranked Louisville Cardinals on Saturday.

The Yellow Jackets would find themselves up 8-3 early in the game, but the two teams would battle back and forth with the Tigers taking a 34-33 lead into halftime.

The second half started with the Tigers going on a 5-0 run, but the Yellow Jackets would quickly erase it and take a 39-38 lead with 15:55 left in the second half. The Tigers would find themselves up 64-59 after a pair of free throws, but the Yellow Jackets would get five points from Duncan Powell to send the game into overtime.

The first overtime was dominated by late defense, as the two teams were tied 70-70 with 2:27 remaining in the period, and neither team would score again in the first overtime.

The second overtime was again dominated by the defense, as the two teams each scored seven points and went into a third overtime. The third overtime seen the team's offenses finally get going, as the Yellow Jackets would score twelve points. The Tigers, down 89-86 with four seconds left in the game, would attempt a three-point shot, but they would ultimately fall short and the Yellow Jackets would get their second straight win when their opponents were favored by double digits.

Naithan George would lead the Yellow Jackets in points with 28, adding seven assists as well. Powell would have another standout performance, scoring 19 points and grabbing 8 rebounds. Baye Ndongo would put up his second straight double double, putting up 18 points and 13 rebounds, while Lance Terry would also get a double double, scoring 12 and getting 10 assists. Ibrahim Soure would contribute nine points and a season-high 12 rebounds.

The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Saturday as they take on the Virginia Cavaliers at 5:30pm Eastern time.
