The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets would take the field against the Marshall Thundering Herd today for game one of their four-game weekend series, looking to continue the momentum built from a 4-0 start for the team. The Yellow Jackets would do just that, as they would get their first run rule of the season, winning 12-1 after the game was stopped in the seventh inning.

Tate McKee would get the start for the Yellow Jackets on the mound, looking for his first win of the season after a dominant showing in the team’s opening day 3-2 win over the Old Dominion Monarchs. McKee would pitch five innings, giving up just two hits and one run and getting his first win of the season.

Incoming transfer Adam Swygert made his Yellow Jackets debut, pitching the sixth inning, and Kayden Campbell would finish it off for the Yellow Jackets, pitching the seventh inning.

The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, thanks in large part to outfielder Drew Burress launching his third home run of the season, while Alex Hernandez would hit his first home run of the season in grand fashion, a grand slam to give the Yellow Jackets an 8-0 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Hernandez was not the only Yellow Jackets player to hit his first home run in the contest, as catcher/infielder Vahn Lackey would hit his first of the season in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Yellow Jackets a 10-1 lead.

Game two of the series against the Thundering Herd is set to start at 2pm Eastern time.
