Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets head coach Brent Key has his second commitment from the transfer portal now, with the announcement of cornerback Kelvin Hill coming to the Yellow Jackets.
Hill was a three-star recruit that played for the Carrollton Trojans, where he was a two-way player where he was voted to the Georgia High School Football Daily First Team two of his three years with the Trojans.
Hill committed to the UAB Blazers during last year’s recruiting cycle, and made an immediate impact as a freshman, as he started all 12 games for the Blazers this season. Hill led the position group in total tackles in his lone season with the Blazers, totaling 42.
Getting a commitment from Hill could be huge for the Yellow Jackets, as the Blazers ranked 19th in the nation in passing yards allowed this season. Adding in one of the core leaders of that defense can only make the position group stronger for the Yellow Jackets.
The commitment from Hill will be the second defensive back that Key has signed from the transfer portal, after the team got a commitment from Daiquan White earlier this week. If anything, these commitments show the positions that Key has chosen to prioritize in this transfer portal cycle, eyeing in on building up the secondary after departures from safety LaMiles Brooks due to graduation, and cornerback Taye Seymore, who chose to enter the transfer portal earlier this week.
One thing is for certain, and that is that the secondary for the Yellow Jackets next season will look very different than what it was in 2024.
