Facing elimination tomorrow, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets women's basketball team will look to do something that the team has only done twice in the past ten years: win an NCAA Women's Tournament game. Both of those came in the same season, 2020-21, as they were able to reach the Sweet Sixteen.
The Yellow Jackets have been no stranger to facing good out of conference games this season, as they have beaten two ranked teams that were out of conference earlier this season: Oregon and Nebraska.
While the Yellow Jackets have lost five of their last six games, it is worth noting that the team was trying to find their footing after a Dani Carnegie injury this season, and it seems like they have, as they beat the Virginia Tech Hokies in the ACC Women's Tournament, followed by a very hard fought performance against the top-seeded NC State Wolfpack, losing by just one point.
The recent performances by guard Tonie Morgan and forward Kara Dunn should be looked at closely, as both players have stepped up in big roles for the Yellow Jackets in the ACC Tournament. Morgan put up 19 points in the team's second round win against the Hokies, then put up 21 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists against the Wolfpack. Dunn would put up 16 points and nine rebounds against the Hokies, then dropped 21 points against the Wolfpack to go along with five rebounds.
The Yellow Jackets are set to tip off against the Spiders at 7:30pm Eastern time.
