The nation is starting to notice what is going on at McCamish Pavilion this season, as the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets women’s basketball team has moved up to No.17 in the AP poll.
The move comes a week after the Yellow Jackets entered the AP top 25 poll for the first time this season, debuting at No.25. The Yellow Jackets moved up eight spots in the poll this week, the most of any ranked team in this week’s poll.
The Yellow Jackets played two games over the past week, one against UL-Monroe, which the Yellow Jackets won 97-37, marking their largest margin of victory since 2011, and an 82-76 win over the-No.14 ranked North Carolina Tar Heels yesterday. The Tar Heels were the second ranked team that the Yellow Jackets have defeated this season, joining the then-No.21 ranked Oregon Ducks. Heading into their game against the Yellow Jackets, the Tar Heels were holding their opponents to under 50 points per game, and the 82 points surrendered to the Yellow Jackets are the most given up by the team this season.
The Yellow Jackets are off to an 11-0 start this season, the best in program history, as freshman guard Dani Carnegie leads the team in scoring this season and leads the entire ACC freshman class in scoring this season.
Up next for the Yellow Jackets will be two home games in the next week, one against the Rice Owls on Dec. 18, and one against the No.21 ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers, before the next poll is revealed next Monday.
