5. Georgia Tech women’s basketball team record-setting start

While this isn’t exactly a specific moment, the Yellow Jackets women’s basketball team currently sits at 14-0, by far the best start in program history and to many fans, the most impressive display of Yellow Jackets basketball in recent memory. The season has all the looks of a special one for the Yellow Jackets, earning them a spot on the list.

4. A dub in Dublin shocks the college football world

The 2024 season for the Yellow Jackets football team began nearly 4,000 miles away from Bobby Dodd Stadium, as the Yellow Jackets were pitted against the Florida State Seminoles in Dublin, Ireland. In a back-and-forth contest, the Yellow Jackets would get their first top 10 win since 2015 as kicker Aiden Birr made a 44-yard field goal as time expired. While the Seminoles had one of the most disappointing seasons of any team in recent memory, at the time, it seemed like it would be a program defining win for the Yellow Jackets.

3. Haynes King 11-yard touchdown run in Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate

While I would want nothing more than to put this moment at the top of this list, I just can’t with the ensuing loss in the greatest college football game I have ever seen. King’s touchdown gave the Yellow Jackets a 27-13 lead with just over five minutes left in the game, seemingly putting the game away for the moment, but a comeback was in store for the Georgia Bulldogs.

2. Men’s basketball team knocks off No.3 North Carolina at McCamish Pavilion

Last season, the Georgia Tech men’s basketball team had little to be excited about, as the team was the true definition of inconsistent. However, for one night, all things seemed right as first-year head coach Damon Stoudemire led the Yellow Jackets to an upset that no one in the country saw coming, as the team beat the North Carolina Tar Heels 74-73. A layup by freshman Naithan George with 7.7 seconds left in the game would seal the first top 3 win for the team in 19 seasons.

1. Fans storm the field at Bobby Dodd as the Yellow Jackets stun the Miami Hurricanes



The atmosphere was lined up perfectly for the Yellow Jackets to pull off one of the biggest upsets of the college football season, as I have never seen as many people at Bobby Dodd Stadium in all my years of going to games. The loudest I have ever heard a crowd at any sporting event I’ve ever attended. The No.4 ranked Miami Hurricanes walked out of Atlanta with their first loss of the season, and the pride of being a Georgia Tech fan was instantly brought back for a fan base that was longing for a win to put us back on the map of the college football world. The togetherness of fans as they stormed the field is a feeling that I have never felt, and probably will never feel again, earning it the top spot in my rankings for the best moments of 2024 for Georgia Tech athletics.
