The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets now have their third commitment of the 2024-2025 transfer portal, as South Carolina receiver Denton Gatling announced that he has signed with the Yellow Jackets.

Gatling returns back to his home-state of Georgia, joining cornerbacks Kelvin Hill and Daiquan White as the other players to have transferred to the Yellow Jackets during this transfer cycle. All three player are from the state but chose to play elsewhere in their respective recruiting cycles.

A three-star recruit, Gatling garnered national attention, getting offers from an array of college football powerhouses, including Oregon, Michigan, Georgia, LSU, Texas, and even one from the Yellow Jackets. Gatling would choose the South Carolina Gamecocks to begin his college career.

He would redshirt his freshman season, sitting behind a wide receiver room that included Mateo Bennett, Raheem Sanders, and Nyck Harbor. Gatling didn’t see the field at all this season, prompting him to enter the transfer portal after the regular season.

At 6’- 194 pounds, Gatling can compete immediately in the Yellow Jackets depth chart, as the Yellow Jackets have presumably lost star receiver Eric Singleton Jr to the transfer portal, and will lose another pair of receivers that contributed greatly to the receiver room this season, such as Chase Lane and Avery Boyd.

The Yellow Jackets offense will need to continue to search the transfer portal for receiver to come in that have the ability to contribute to the offense right away, and Gatling is a good start for the team in that area.
