In a press conference yesterday, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets quarterback Haynes King said that he is “100% ready to go,” in regards to his shoulder injury for the Birmingham Bowl against the Vanderbilt Commodores. The news comes as a relief for Yellow Jacket fans, as many were worried about King playing nearly the full game against their in-state rival, Georgia Bulldogs, where he threw 36 passes and had 24 rush attempts.
King has seen limited playing time since going down with the shoulder injury in the Yellow Jackets 41-34 win against the North Carolina Tar Heels on Oct. 14. King seen no playing time against Notre Dame or Virginia Tech, seeing limited action against Miami and NC State, before playing in all but the Yellow Jackets opening possession against the Bulldogs.
While he is 100% healthy, Yellow Jacket fans can expect King to share a few snaps with freshman quarterback Aaron Philo, who moved up the depth chart during King’s absence, jumping junior quarterback Zach Pyron for the No.2 spot on the depth chart.
Before going down with the shoulder injury, King had 1,568 passing yards on the season, including a four-game stretch against Georgia State, Syracuse, VMI, and Louisville, where he threw for at least 266 yards in all four games.
The Yellow Jackets and Commodores meeting on Dec. 27 will be one of the most interesting to watch this bowl season, and King assuring that he will be 100% healthy for it, makes the game that much more intriguing.
