Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets women's basketball head coach Nell Fortner will be among the elite in her line of work, as she has been named one of 15 finalists for the Werner Ladder Naismith Women's College Coach of the Year for the work that she has done this season.
In what was supposed to be a down year for the team, Fortner made the most of the task at hand, which led to the team starting the season 15-0 this season. It took weeks before the college basketball world would take notice, as the team was 9-0 before they reached the AP Top 25, but they have been there since making their arrival.
The Yellow Jackets currently sit at No.20 in the latest poll.
A lot of the success for the team this season has come from three core players: junior guards Tonie Morgan and Kara Dunn, and freshman guard Dani Carnegie, who before her injury was a shoe end for the ACC Freshman of the Year.
Ball movement has been key for the team this season, as they sit at second in the conference in assists per game.
The offense for the Yellow Jackets sit at third in points per game in the conference, while they are allowing the fourth least points per game in the conference.
Fortner and the Yellow Jackets have three games left in the season, and with an upcoming opportunity against the No.10 ranked NC State Wolfpack on Thursday, the team and Fortner could make a lot of noise to close the season out.
