When the season began for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets women's basketball team, not many people outside the program had the team doing all that much this season, but one thing is for certain: they are here, and they have arrived on the national stage. The team has been ranked in the AP Top 25 for six straight weeks now and with 11 games left in the regular season, it's time for the team to look ahead to where they could be in terms of postseason play. Here is how I anticipate the Yellow Jackets seeding will look come time for the NCAA Tournament.
With the Yellow Jackets losing three straight games, they have taken a small bit to credibility, but I believe the committee will see that the Yellow Jackets were without a key contributor to the team in Dani Carnegie.
The rest of the schedule is a little favorable for the Yellow Jackets, as they face three more ranked teams this season, but a big factor in their seeding will determine how well they play in the ACC tournament. They currently sit in ninth place in the conference standings, but are the fourth highest ranked team in the conference in the AP Top 25.
I would expect a strong showing in the ACC tournament for the Yellow Jackets, as they have beaten one of the three teams in the conference that are ranked above them, North Carolina, and play the No. 16 ranked Duke Blue Devils on Jan.26. So the Yellow Jackets could very well find themselves in the conference championship in a rematch against No.3 Notre Dame, who beat the Yellow Jackets 81-66 on Jan.16.
That being said, I project that the ceiling for the team is as high as a three seed, while the floor should be no lower than a six seed. So any where between those two numbers. Either way, the Yellow Jackets are in prime position to take advantage of seeding and make a run in the NCAA Tournament this season.
