The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are approaching their Birmingham Bowl matchup with the Vanderbilt Commodores, and Yellow Jacket fans will have a lot to look forward to on their side of things, as the team makes its second straight bowl appearance. Let’s look at some of the major headlines from the game for the Yellow Jackets.
New look Yellow Jackets
Eric Singleton Jr, Romello Height, and Corey Robinson have all entered the transfer portal over the course of three weeks, leaving Yellow Jacket fans wondering what the team will look like going forward. The Yellow Jackets will look different in a lot of ways next season, and this is the first time that we will get a glimpse into what the team will look like. The Yellow Jackets will also be without Kyle Efford and Rodney Shelley due to injuries.
The rushing attack
With Singleton Jr presumably not playing in the game, the Yellow Jackets will be thin at the receiver position, so they will need to rely on the rushing attack to win the game, which will primarily fall on running back Jamal Haynes and quarterback Haynes King. The gameplan could work in the Yellow Jackets favor though, as the Commodores have allowed at least 200 yards rushing in two of their past three games to end the regular season.
Quarterback dual
Perhaps the biggest storyline heading into the game is the toughness of both quarterbacks, as Yellow Jacket quarterback Haynes King and Commodores quarterback Diego Pavia have led their teams to wins over top 5 teams this season. Both King and Pavia should put on a show that could be the most electric matchup in the bowl season.
