The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets could be dealt yet another blow to the team, as wide receiver Malik Rutherford has announced that he plans to enter the transfer portal, according to JacketsOnline.com.

Losing Rutherford will be a huge blow to the Yellow Jackets, as an already thinning receiver position now loses its two biggest contributors from last season, with Rutherford seemingly joining wide receiver Eric Singleton Jr. in the transfer portal.

The Yellow Jackets receiving room now looks like it could be interesting with no clear number one option, but Key has focused on the position group in the transfer portal, signing receivers Debron Gatling, and the Florida International duo of Eric Rivers, who was fifth in the nation last season in receiving yards, and Dean Patterson, who caught 50 passes for 685 yards this season for the Owls.

Rutherford started half of the games he played with the Yellow Jackets, as he played in 40 games and started in 20 of them. This season, Rutherford embraced his No.2 spot on the depth chart behind Singleton Jr, as he was second on the team with 670 receiving yards and first on the team with 59 receptions.

This season, Rutherford had standout performances against Georgia State, where he hauled in seven passes for 131 yards, and Louisville, where he caught seven passes for 113 yards, resulting in him being an honorable mention among the All-ACC team. Rutherford was one of ten Yellow Jackets players to receive the honor this season.

Rutherford will transfer out as a redshirt junior, having one year of eligibility left.
