The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have landed FIU Panthers wide receiver Eric Rivers from the transfer portal, bringing their total acquisitions through the portal up to four.
Rivers is the second receiver that head coach Brent Key has brought into the program through the transfer portal, joining former South Carolina receiver Debron Gatling.
Rivers was a three-star recruit from Chattanooga, Tennessee that joined the Memphis Tigers in the 2021 recruiting class. He spent two seasons with the Tigers before transferring to the Panthers. Before the start of the 2023 season. Rivers showed promise in 2023 in limited playing time, but exploded onto the scene this season with 62 catches for 1,172 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. Rivers was fifth in the nation in receiving yards and fourth in the nation in receiving touchdowns.
While undersized at 5’11” 174, Rivers has big play potential, as he averaged 18.9 yards per reception last season, showing that he can use his speed to make big plays once he gets the ball in space, similar to another receiver that Yellow Jacket fans may be familiar with: Eric Singleton Jr.
Ever since Singleton Jr. announced that he was entering the transfer portal on Dec. 9, the Yellow Jackets have made wide receiver a position of emphasis, adding Rivers and Gatling within the last week.
Adding in Rivers to pair with fellow Yellow Jacket receiver Malik Rutherford could fix some of that production left behind by Singleton Jr. leaving and receiver Chris Lane graduating. Rivers will have two years of eligibility left for the Yellow Jackets.
